Down at the Ol' Farm

My baby is FIVE!!! I can't even believe how fast the time has gone. He's not the snuggly, cuddly little baby or even toddler anymore. :( Momma's sad!
For over a year now Jake has been obsessed with Combine Harvesters. It started from a fascination of Frank from "Cars" and morphed into John Deere Combines.
I was actually surprised that he didn't choose combines for his theme last year.

The favors: JD Fruit Snacks, JD Popcorn, A tape measure, and some goldfish crackers (not pictured.)

The table, all ready for guests to arrive. Notice the hay bales! I was very excited to find these at the local craft store with the fall clearance stuff for $2!

The John Deere 9500 Combine Harvester Cake! I was really worried that this was going to be a difficult cake to pull off. But thankfully I stumbled upon a blog by a lady who made a combine cake for her son out that was much simpler- I baked the cake in two bread pans, stacked them, Jason cut out for the cab (to which we attached to the front), and made oreo wheels and a licorice shoot. (Look closely to see that Jason lined the oreos with black licorice cut in half! Amazing!) I wasn't quite sure what to do for the blade- but watching all those Food Network Cake Challenges paid off- RICE KRISPIE TREATS! Yes! Then I added some shredded wheat hay bales for extra effect- Voala!

Jakob, some of his friends and his cousins!
