Our Favorite Meals

I love to cook. Always have. Where my mom was always the traditionalist and stuck to her recipes, I was the experimental cook. I loved to try new recipes, and add my own revisions. Mom loved her recipes (the ones that now are my 'comfort food'- like roast beef, beef stroganoff, spaghetti, chili...). She has since broken off the well beaten path, and loves to make new dishes. And yet, my most favorite meals to have at her house are the ones we grew up with.

I still love to try new recipes. I do so often. My favorite magazine is Cuisine at Home. 100% recipes and tips. No ads. Pure goodness in every bite. I have not made one recipe that I didn't like or want to repeat. Recipes like Dan Dan Noodles (ground turkey in a peanut butter sauce over noodles), Hawaiian Huli Huli Chicken, Coca Cola Chicken, Ratatouille Tart and Chicken Sambal have graced our table and been gobbled up.

My other favorite source for new recipes is foodnetwork.com, and blogs. I have a bookmark folder on my computer labeled "recipes to try". Once they make the cut they are moved to "favorite recipes".

But I do have my favorites. My fall backs. My easy to fix meals. Here are our families favorites (I will post more recipes later. If there is one that you really want first, comment, and let me know!)

::Spaghetti with homemade meat sauce (recipe from my sister in law's mom)
::White Chicken Chili
::Pizza (made with this Beer Batter Pizza Dough, or my other absolute favorite)
::Chicken Enchiladas
::Macaroni & Cheese (I love Bobbi Flay's version, however my husband loves his mom's classic recipe)
::Chicken Divan (another one of my husband's family favorites)
::Bread Pudding (a 'brinner', aka breakfast for dinner, treat)
::Taco Soup (an easy, brown the beef and throw is some canned food bowl of yumminess)
::Shepherd's Pie

This has me wondering- what are your families favorite meals?

  1. you always amaze me with your status updates on what you are cooking for dinner. My meals seem so simple compared to your. We love Chicken Tortilla Soup, chicken soft tacos, fried rice, and shredded pork burritos. I have never made white chili before and would love to try your recipe out.
